How to Get In the Trekking Site
Mount Rinjani is located in Lombok, a small island not far from Bali. The mountain is 3,726 in height and positioned in the second place of Indonesia’s highest volcano. The existence of Mount Rinjani is very important for the continuity of wildlife in Indonesia and in 2008, UNESCO has made it world’s official geopark.
Each year, the mount has attracted thousands of trekkers to vanquish its unique track and enjoy the beautiful scenery as the reward. To get into the trekking area, there are some options that the visitors can take. However, most trekkers prefer to choose to start it from Senaru, This is one of the nearest villages to Mount Rinjani and located on the northern part of the mountain. The location of the Senaru village makes it closer to the various main resort areas such as Senggigi. Another option that can be taken by the trekkers is by going through Sembalun Lawang. The village is located on the eastern side of the mountain and also closer to the summit. Both Senaru and Sembalun Lawang can be easily accessed from the main road along the north coast. Those villages are the perfect start for Mount Rinjani Trekking .
But, if you choose to get to Lombok Island from Padangbai, Bali, the easiest option to choose is by taking a ferry which operated for 24 hours. The trip from Padangbai to the island is about 4.5 hours and costs only 45,000 IDR. Another option to take is by renting a fast boat which takes a shorter time than the ferry. However, the cost needed for renting the fast boat is more expensive, around 250,000 IDR and it only operates at 8am – 1.30 pm. Once you reach the Lembar Harbour in Lombok, you can get a taxi to take you to Senaru. The journey will take 45 minutes only and the cost is about 35,000 IDR. If you want a cheaper trip, you can take a bus which only costs 15,000 during the day. During the night, the bus cost will increase up to 30,000 IDR. Meanwhile, the entry cost to the Rinjani National Park is about 150,000 IDR per person.
Where To Stay
You might need a place to stay before starting the trekking. There are a lot of guest houses you can easily find at Senaru and Semablun Lawang Villages. However, during April, when most trekkers come to do the trekking at Mount Rinjani, the guesthouses will be a bit hard to find. But, there is nothing to be worried since the villagers will provide their houses to be rented by the visitors. You can also find restaurants run by the local people of the two villages. If you are not really sure about your journey, there will be guides you can hire to accompany during the Mount Rinjani Trekking and porters to carry your belongings.
