The History of Bali Museum

It was W.F.J Kroon—the assistant residence of South Bali serving from 1909-1913, who initiated the founding of Bali Museum. In 1910, three architects designed the structure of the Arca Building. Those architects are I Gusti Ketut Rai, I Gusti Gede Ketut Kandel, and a German named Curt Grudler. The Kings of Tabanan, Buleleng, and Karangasem in Bali was the ones to fund the making of The Arca Building. It was only in the 1930s, a man called W.T Sttuterhim to fill the building with ethnographic heritage. The Bali Museum Denpasar was officially open for the very first time in 1932. The building was divided into three parts, and each was named after the kings’ territories, such as Karangasem Building, Tabanan House, and Buleleng Building. After the declaration of Indonesia’s Independence, Bali Museum was taken over by Denpasar Provincial Government. In 1965, Indonesia Government took over the museum and handed it over to the ministry of education and culture. It was just in 2000 that Balinese Provincial Government took over the management of this museum. The area of Arca building now is expanded to 6000 square meters and has the east building. The Entrance Fee and Operation Hours of Bali Museum

If you enter the museum you will have to pay Rp.50.000. However, you will need to pay more if you want to hire a guide to explain all the things in the museum. The museum operates from Sunday to Thursday and opens at 08.00 PM to 15.00 PM. On Fridays, you need to come earlier since it closes at 12.30 PM. On Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, this museum is closed.
